Permanent mild climate, fine sand beaches stretched out over kilometres of coast and lined up with coconut trees, welcome you with serenity. However, if one looks a bit closer, with one’s heart and sensibility, one sees children in rags. There are many children in Madagascar. Little marvellous beings with no education, with no future, no tomorrow. Confronted with this poverty, we wanted to act. So, with a group of friends, including former volunteers from the Voluntary Service Overseas and persons attached to Madagascar for many reasons, we created an organization. In addition, the opportunity of our plan has been confirmed by a survey made within the framework of the educational programme at the heart of adjustment in Madagascar “MADIO”, which shows an unprecedented step back of the educational system. Figures are alarming . From 1992 to 1996, just within the region of Imerina, 1500 primary schools have been shut down. About 15% of the youngsters from 6 to 10 don’t go to school. Within the provinces, that rate reaches 52%. This massive descholarization is due to the fall in the living standard, the main concern being survival. This phenomenon has worsened since the Budget concerning education decreases constantly.
